Global Markets Slip While Oil Surges; US Indices Close Lower
International equity markets experienced a broad-based pullback on Tuesday. Major Asian exchanges in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Jakarta all posted declines, whereas Tokyo managed a slight uptick. In the United States, both the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq Composite ended the session in the red, slipping 0.29% and 0.56% respectively.
The deterioration across markets was largely linked to heightened geopolitical risk stemming from the ongoing war in the Middle East, which has kept investor sentiment cautious.
Oil prices continued their upward trajectory amid the same tensions. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude climbed 1.53% to $103 a barrel, while Brent crude rose 1.31% to $107 a barrel.
Precious metals felt the downside pressure: gold on the COMEX slipped 0.18% to $4,344 per ounce, and silver fell 0.5% to $63 per ounce.
These developments unfolded as the Indian market opened positively, driven by technology shares, but the broader global backdrop remained bearish.
