Four Decades of Policy Experience Back Anurag Jain’s Role as Niti Aayog CEO
New Delhi, 17 August — With almost 40 years of service, IAS veteran Anurag Jain has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Niti Aayog. The selection is seen as a reinforcement of the think‑tank’s capability to drive India’s long‑term development agenda.
Jain’s career includes senior responsibilities across central ministries and state administrations. He has headed the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, steered the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, and acted as Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh. His extensive exposure to infrastructure projects, industrial policies and fiscal reforms aligns with Niti Aayog’s core mandate.
The agency’s X account confirmed the welcome, emphasizing that Jain’s leadership will bolster policy design, execution and coordination with the states. The appointment, ratified by the Cabinet’s Appointments Committee, is slated for a two‑year term, subject to earlier termination.
