Experts Warn Against Impulse Buying During Muhurat Trading

Financial advisors are advising market participants to exercise restraint ahead of the traditional Diwali Muhurat trading session. While the ceremony traditionally marks a fresh start for investments in Samvat 2083, experts caution that blind rushing into equities based purely on cultural significance is financially unwise.

After a sustained upward trajectory, benchmark indices are currently testing major overhead resistance levels. The restricted trading hours and comparatively thin order book characteristic of the Muhurat session can exacerbate price fluctuations. Therefore, analysts recommend a highly selective investment methodology grounded in fundamental analysis.

This special trading window presents a dual opportunity: initiating new wealth creation and auditing existing holdings. Conservative investors should evaluate their portfolio distribution and implement systematic equity purchases in companies with durable competitive advantages. Short-term speculators are urged to strictly adhere to price action patterns and global macro trends before committing fresh capital.

From a valuation standpoint, the broader equity market appears undervalued relative to historical benchmarks. The Nifty index is trading at approximately 17.5 times forward earnings, representing a 16 percent discount to its long-term average. In contrast, micro and small-cap stocks maintain a 25 percent premium above their historical valuations, indicating potential overstretch in the lower segments.

Future corporate performance is projected to improve steadily. Earnings per share for Nifty companies are expected to expand by 5 percent in fiscal 2026, followed by robust growth rates of 16 percent and 14 percent in fiscal 2027 and 2028. This earnings trajectory fuels confidence in specific high-growth sectors.

Industry watchers have identified banking, financial services, capital markets, manufacturing, global business process outsourcing, export-oriented firms, consumer staples, and digital economy players as primary wealth generators. Complementary opportunities are also emerging in diagnostic equipment, aerospace manufacturing, auto parts, active pharmaceutical ingredients, textile exports, port infrastructure, premium jewelry chains, and instant delivery networks.

Given the low liquidity environment, market veterans strongly advise against executing large-volume orders or aggressive breakout trades during the session. Sudden volatility is highly probable when volume dries up. Novice investors are specifically told to ignore auspicious date gimmicks, starting instead with minimal stakes in fundamentally sound enterprises and maintaining a long-horizon outlook.

Chart analysis suggests the Nifty, currently positioned near 24,600, will trade within a bounded channel. The 24,350 mark offers immediate downside protection, while the 24,700 to 24,800 region acts as a formidable upside ceiling. Despite potential profit-booking after a six-day winning streak, resilient domestic economic fundamentals, reinstated foreign institutional inflows, and strengthening corporate balance sheets continue to anchor market optimism. A rational, long-term strategy is strongly preferred over sentiment-driven trading.
