EPFO Wage Limit Upgrade Expected to Enrol 5.1 Million New Workers

Analysts estimate that the revised salary band will add more than 5.1 million contributors to EPFO’s massive social‑security network, which already serves around 7.98 crore members and over 7.68 lakh establishments. The EPS component will extend pension eligibility to a broader base, while the EDLI scheme will provide life‑cover for millions of employees. The government projects the annual fiscal outlay for the expanded coverage to rise to roughly ₹11,339 crore, compared with the current ₹10,250 crore, and foresees a cumulative five‑year cost of about ₹56,696 crore.
