Dubai receives Tripura’s inaugural mustard honey export, boosting beekeepers

Dubai has welcomed a shipment of one metric ton of mustard honey sourced from Tripura’s Dergaon region, marking the state’s first foray into the international honey market. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced the milestone on August 10, emphasizing its potential to broaden market access for local apiarists.

The export was coordinated by APEDA in partnership with the Dergaon Farmers Producer Organization, which aggregated the honey from small‑scale beekeepers and ensured compliance with export regulations. The move is projected to increase farm‑gate prices for producers, who can now benefit from stronger demand overseas.

Officials noted that the successful export underscores the effectiveness of organized farmer groups in navigating complex supply chains and meeting global quality benchmarks. It also signals a shift toward diversified agricultural products from the North‑East.

M/S Salt Range Foods Private Limited contributed expertise in honey processing and packaging, aligning the product with international specifications. Their involvement was crucial in achieving the first smooth shipment to the UAE.

The ministry urged other farmer producer organizations across Tripura and neighboring states to explore similar export opportunities, aiming to enhance income levels and promote sustainable beekeeping practices.
