Diversified Crude Imports Strengthen India’s Resilience

Former BPC L marketing chief Sukamal Kumar Jain affirmed that India’s strategy of buying crude oil from over 40 countries has been a decisive factor in weathering the global energy shock. By spreading purchases across multiple basins, the nation reduced exposure to geopolitical tensions and supply bottlenecks.

Jain outlined how the government, over the last decade, invested heavily in refining upgrades, expanded pipeline grids, constructed LNG terminals and bolstered strategic petroleum reserves. These assets acted as a buffer, allowing the country to meet domestic demand even when external markets tightened.

“Whenever one segment faces stress, the breadth of our sources cushions the impact,” he explained. “The diversified portfolio is the cornerstone of our energy security.”

Alongside these structural measures, continuous coordination among the Ministry of Petroleum, state oil firms, and the Ministry of External Affairs ensured real‑time decision‑making. This synergy prevented any interruption in the supply of petrol, diesel and LPG during the crisis.

The discussion also referenced recent consumer‑focused actions, such as Nayara’s price reduction for petrol and diesel, which were widely praised by commuters and commercial drivers across the nation.
