Discount and Quota Ticket Verification to be Enforced by Oct End

From 1 October to 31 October, Indian Railways will conduct a focused ticket‑checking sweep across its Central Railway lines. The sweep will concentrate on discount tickets, reservation quotas, railway passes and group reservations. Staff stationed at stations and onboard local trains will verify the authenticity of each ticket and ask passengers for original identity documents.

The list of acceptable documents mirrors the railway's standard: Aadhaar, passport, PAN, driving licence, voter ID, government photo ID, student ID, a photo‑bearing bank passbook or a laminated credit‑card with a photo. Mere scanned copies or images on a mobile device will not satisfy the requirement.

Checking agents are equipped with the TTE mobile application, enabling real‑time validation of tickets, including those lacking a reservation number. Passengers traveling under discounted or quota schemes must carry the specified original ID to prove their entitlement. Holders of e‑Pass or PTOR tickets must ensure the electronic pass has been properly converted to an "Authority to Travel" before the train departs.

For group reservations, at least one traveller in the group must present a valid original ID. Failure to produce the required documents can result in action under railway regulations, including the levy of additional charges. In line with the Jan Vishwas (Amendment) Act 2026, the base fine for riding without a ticket has been increased from ₹250 to ₹500 as of 20 June 2026.
