Digital Handloom Atlas Launched at GI Summit to Connect Artisans Worldwide

At the GI and Beyond 2.0 Summit in New Delhi, the Ministry of Textiles unveiled the Digital Handloom Atlas – a platform billed as “One platform, endless market.” Built to showcase Indian handloom and GI‑tagged products, the Atlas will allow artisans to register their creations, display detailed product information and access a global buyer base.

The launch coincides with the presentation of GI certificates to existing owners and newly authorised users, underscoring the government’s push to formalise and promote the GI ecosystem. Over 100 GI‑registered handloom and handicraft items will be exhibited, complemented by live weaving shows and thematic displays highlighting regional weaving traditions.

Chief Guest Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita, along with Special Guest Textile Secretary Neelam Shami Rao, inaugurated the platform. Other officials present included Development Commissioner (Handloom) Dr. M. Bina, IAS; Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Mrs. Amrit Raj; and Professor Dr. Unnat P. Pandit, CGPDTM, ROC.

The Digital Handloom Atlas aims to bridge the gap between rural artisans and international markets, offering a searchable database, digital marketing tools and direct export assistance.
