Delhi Assembly Pushes for Fiscal Responsibility Through Prompt ATNs

New Delhi – On August 7, the Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Vijayendra Gupta, reinforced the importance of financial accountability by ordering all governmental wings to submit Action Taken Notes (ATNs) that respond to the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) scrutiny of last year’s Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit reports.

Gupta noted that the PAC has been diligently examining CAG reports that were never tabled in the Assembly during earlier administrations. The committee’s current report addresses the audits presented last year, and the Speaker expects that the review of this year’s reports will be completed by the close of the financial year.

He instructed the Assembly Secretariat to promptly circulate the relevant CAG documents to the respective departments so that ATNs can be prepared and turned in within the set timeline. Emphasising that CAG observations are typically case‑specific, Gupta urged departments to view these remarks as early warnings, prompting them to institute strong remedial actions and make the best possible use of the state’s constrained resources.

The Speaker clarified that the audit reports do more than pinpoint deficiencies; they also outline routes for improvement. He called on every department to take the conclusions seriously, file their ATNs on schedule, and adopt corrective measures that guarantee every rupee of public money is spent solely for its designated purpose.
