Cyber‑security and AI measures boost protection for digital lenders
In a concerted effort to shield digital lenders from emerging threats, the government has paired advanced cyber‑security protocols with artificial‑intelligence fraud detection tools. According to the finance state minister, these initiatives are part of an evolving regulatory dialogue between the Ministry of Finance, the RBI and industry stakeholders.
The DPDP Act of 2023 forms the backbone of data‑privacy enforcement, while the RBI's SRO‑FT framework, released on May 30, 2024, establishes clear operational standards for fintech entities. The framework emphasises ethical conduct, market integrity, and a transparent dispute‑resolution mechanism.
To address technical vulnerabilities, the RBI's 2021 master guidelines on digital payment security remain in effect, mandating rigorous safeguards for web and mobile applications. The Ministry of Home Affairs also introduced a national cyber‑crime reporting portal and the 1930 helpline, simplifying the process for consumers to report illegal loan apps and other cyber incidents.
Banks complement these efforts through the "Sachet" portal and State‑Level Coordination Committees, offering avenues to lodge complaints against unlawful fund‑collection practices. Simultaneously, RBI‑led awareness campaigns disseminate safety information via short SMS alerts, radio broadcasts, and other outreach methods, reinforcing a culture of vigilance among fintech users.
