Coal Dispatch Climbs 17% in July as India Secures Energy Supply

New Delhi, August 2 – Provisional data released by the Ministry of Coal reveal that coal dispatches in India surged to 86.33 million tonnes in July 2026, a 17.34 percent increase over July 2025’s 73.57 million tonnes.

The rise mirrors the overall 7.51 percent growth in coal production, which reached 69.75 million tonnes this month, up from 64.88 million tonnes a year earlier.

Coal India Limited again led the sector, moving 63.67 million tonnes in July – a 17.43 percent jump from the previous year – while producing 50.35 million tonnes, an 8.42 percent increase.

During the April‑July window of FY 2026‑27, total dispatch climbed to 354.70 million tonnes, reflecting a 5.87 percent improvement over the same period last fiscal year.

The ministry highlighted that the steady climb in both production and dispatch underscores its ongoing efforts to guarantee a reliable domestic coal supply, improve mining efficiency, and cut down on import reliance.

Such progress is seen as vital for bolstering India’s economic growth trajectory and reinforcing its energy security strategy.
