Civil Aviation Ministry Rolls Out Digital Tool for Regional Connectivity

New Delhi, Sept 22 — The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has launched a Challenge Mode online portal, a key component of the Udaan Scheme's next stage. The platform enables all states and union territories to submit proposals for airstrip and helipad development, targeting enhanced regional air links.

In a concerted effort, the ministry signed 21 memoranda of understanding with partner states, union territories and the Airports Authority of India to reinforce coordination for building aviation infrastructure in underserved zones. According to Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, the system will help local administrators actively identify strategic locations and expedite the planning, funding and construction processes.

The launch also included the release of a comprehensive document outlining the upcoming air‑route bidding round. Airlines will be invited to submit bids for newly earmarked routes, with a focus on transparency, competition and affordability. The expected outcome is expanded air service coverage, reduced travel costs, and a boost to tourism, commerce and local employment.

The next phase of the Udaan initiative will concentrate on four pillars: affordable passenger mobility, operational resilience, a transparent challenge‑mode framework for project delivery, and encouragement of indigenous manufacturing in the aviation ecosystem.
