Chennai Meeting to Set Agenda for 2026‑27 State Budget and Agriculture Plan

TVK MLAs are set to meet at the party’s Panaiyur office in Chennai on Tuesday, with the discussion timed for 4 p.m. The agenda centers on the preparation for the first budget of the Vijay administration and the legislative agenda for the 2026‑27 fiscal year. Topics include the general budget, the agriculture budget slated for the following day, and other pivotal matters that will be debated in the assembly.

The state assembly will reconvene on Wednesday, where Finance Minister Maria Wilson will introduce the general budget. Agriculture Minister Vinod will present the agricultural budget on Thursday. After both documents are tabled, legislators will deliberate on departmental allocations and grant requirements, anticipating a budget session that could span up to one and a half months.

The new government’s first full legislative session began on 18 June after the governor’s address, with follow‑up debates on a gratitude motion held on 19, 22 and 23 June. The session was subsequently placed on an indefinite pause, giving the cabinet time to incorporate election‑promise initiatives into the upcoming budget.

Key commitments highlighted by the chief minister include a gold ring for newborns to be distributed on 15 September, monthly free electricity of 200 units for eligible consumers, and a farm‑loan waiver of up to ₹75,000. The upcoming meeting will serve as a final checkpoint to review these promises and other proposals before they are formally introduced in the budget.
