Argentina Seeks Expanded Preferential Trade Agreement with India, Says Ambassador

During an exclusive interview with a news agency, Ambassador Mariano Cosino outlined Argentina's intention to widen the scope of the existing Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) with India.

Cosino explained that Argentina is a founding member of MERCOSUR, a trade bloc that includes Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Because of this membership, any amendment to the PTA requires coordination with fellow MERCOSUR nations.

He added that member states share a strong consensus to collaborate with India, seeking to extend the PTA beyond a narrow list of goods. While the current arrangement caps trade to specific categories, the ambassador expressed confidence that discussions will soon result in a more comprehensive deal.

The push for an expanded PTA aligns with broader strategic goals, as both countries aim to leverage each other's market strengths and boost bilateral investment flows.
