Amitabh Kant Highlights Mutual Gains from Deeper India‑US Partnership

New Delhi, June 29 – In an interview, Amitabh Kant, former G20 Sherpa and ex‑CEO of the NITI Aayog, asserted that stronger India‑United States ties will be beneficial for both sides. He underlined that the United States is a principal trade and investment partner for India, while India is fast emerging as a major global economic player.

His statements coincide with speculation that President Donald Trump could schedule a visit to India at the start of next year, and talks on a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement are progressing. Kant stressed that successive Indian administrations have worked to preserve a close relationship with Washington, acknowledging its importance as an economic heavyweight.

He highlighted that the U.S. accounts for roughly one‑quarter of the world’s GDP and controls about 50 percent of total market capitalization. Moreover, America is at the forefront of frontier technology development, which could be leveraged by India.

Kant said India’s developmental journey could gain substantially from deeper engagement with the U.S. market, especially as the country aspires to expand its economy from $4 trillion to $30 trillion in the near future. He also praised India’s vibrant democracy and the sweeping economic reforms implemented over recent years.

The comments were delivered as U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio hinted at a possible trip to India before year‑end to finalise arrangements for President Trump’s planned visit.
