In the electric passenger vehicle (EV) segment in India, 15,423 units were sold in July 2025, which is 93% more than July 2024. Market leader Tata Motors sold over 6,000 vehicles after 8 months, while JSW MG Motor India and Mahindra recorded over 200% annual growth. Despite double growth, Mahindra and MG Motor lagged behind Tata Motors in sales. Tata has been the largest company selling EVs for several months.
After losing market share to Mahindra and MG for several months, Tata Motors sold the most units this year in July, with 6,019 units, an 18% annual growth. Although Tata is still number one in market share, its share has decreased from 67% last year to 38%. Tata has the largest EV portfolio among widely sold brands, with electric versions of all cars except the Altroz. The company aims to achieve a 50% stake in the EV market by investing 35,000 crore rupees in the next 5 years.
