Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch a new SUV in India, aiming to directly compete with the Hyundai Creta. While the automaker has kept most details about the upcoming SUV under wraps, it has confirmed that the launch will take place on September 3rd in the Indian market. Recently, the company released a teaser showcasing a full LED tail lamp design. The tail lamp design features a 3D look, along with a sleek brake lamp. Turn indicators are positioned on either side of the brake lamp. The tail lamp’s shape initially resembles the Maruti Suzuki Swift, but it is more stylish. The new SUV aims to increase the company’s market share in the mass-market SUV segment. It is expected to be based on the existing Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The new SUV will be positioned between the Grand Vitara and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza in Maruti’s portfolio. According to media reports, the new SUV will be sold through the Arena dealerships. Maruti Suzuki is targeting a product that appeals to a broad audience, intending to surpass the Hyundai Creta in sales. Maruti Suzuki already has several powertrains for other products, and it will likely use them in this new SUV. The new SUV will likely have a 1.5-liter petrol engine that generates 101 bhp of maximum power and 139 Nm of maximum torque. It will also offer a petrol-CNG powertrain. Like the Grand Vitara, the new SUV could also come with a petrol-hybrid powertrain. Maruti Suzuki recently announced the production of lithium-ion batteries at its Indian plant. The company may use these domestically produced batteries for the hybrid powertrain of the Grand Vitara, as well as the new SUV, which could reduce the SUV’s price.
