Constable killed in Maoist attack

A former Maoist, who joined the security forces after surrender, was killed and a civilian injured on Saturday in Rajnandgaon district. Some Maoist rebels had opened fire at them in Sadak Banjari village of the district.Police said that the district reserve guard (DRG) constable Ganeshwar Singh Uike also known as Ravi had gone to the village to attend a marriage in the family. Three Maoists, dressed as villagers, reached the spot and opened indiscriminate fire.

Uike and another resident was injured and the Maoists fled on a motorcycle. The two were taken to a local community health centre, where Uike died during treatment. The other villager was referred to the district hospital in Rajnandgaon where his condition is said to be stable.
