In such a situation, being the elder in the family, the responsibility of the family had already fallen on his shoulders before time. After a lot of efforts, he completed his graduation. On the initiative of Gram Panchayat, she is working as a mate since 2012 under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA. She reaches the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA workplace in the morning after completing all the household chores and, by allotting work to MGNREGA workers in the form of a mate, records the work done by them in her met-measure register. Ms. Anurag has become so efficient in her work that she handles all the tasks with ease like any other mate. Their disability is nowhere to be seen in front of their skills. Ms. Anurag, who closely observes the ups and downs of life, has also fulfilled the role of growing up in the family. Taking care of the farming he inherited, he educated his younger siblings and got them married. Ms. Thakur says that she got a lot of support from Mahatma Gandhi NREGA. With the remuneration received in the form of mate in the scheme, they are able to run their livelihood better than before. So far, he has got one lakh 67 thousand rupees as remuneration from the work of Mate. As a female mate, Ms. Anurag contacted women from door to door and sought work from them to increase the participation of women in the works under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA. As a result of their activism, 189 women got employment of 4 thousand 346 man-days in the year 2018-19, which increased to 7 thousand 719 man-days created by 225 women in the year 2019-20. This trend of women’s participation continued in the year 2020-21 as well. This year, employment of 16 thousand 271 man-days was obtained by 289 women. At the same time, in the current financial year 2021-22, as on February 16, 277 women have got direct employment of 5 thousand 430 man-days. Apart from increasing the participation of women in MGNREGA, Ms. Thakur also works with the Didis of Women’s Self Help Groups in the village. She herself is also associated with Om Sainath Self Help Group and plays the role of Accountant in the group. Due to her leadership and accounting skills, she has kept 14 women self-help groups formed under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission in the village active. Apart from this, she also provides information to the residents of the village to take the important schemes of the government directly to the beneficiary.
