Gothan and Godhan Nyay Yojana, made under the Suraji Gaon Yojana of the Government of Chhattisgarh, has developed a new basis of employment and self-reliance in the villages. With the care of livestock, free management of fodder and water in Gauthans, along with the purchase of cow dung, women groups have started getting employment there easily. Along with preparing vermi compost from cow dung, women’s groups are moving towards financial self-sufficiency by adopting other income activities. Mahamaya women’s self-help group belonging to village Sendripali Gauthan of Pali development block of Korba district and Sai Self-help group of village Mahora Bhavar Gauthan of Podi Uporda development block have earned a substantial income by producing vermicompost and cultivating vegetables. Mrs. Rajkumari Koram, a member of Mahamaya Mahila Self-Help Group, told that a total of 13 women are associated with her group. The group has got a profit of one lakh 58 thousand 630 rupees from the production of vermicompost and vegetables. Apart from fulfilling their needs, the women associated with the group have also bought anklets, rings and other jewelry for themselves. Similarly, the Sai Self-Help Group has earned a profit of one lakh 20 thousand rupees from the production of vermi fertilizer and one lakh 10 thousand rupees by cultivating vegetables. For the production of vermi, he had received Rs. 20 thousand each from the Revolving Fund for training and from the government, which he used for plowing and purchasing seeds for vegetable cultivation. The women of the group, pleased with the profits made from vermicompost and vegetable production, are now engaged in increasing this work.
