Awarded with a letter. Union Agriculture Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar felicitated four progressive farmers of Chhattisgarh state in the award ceremony held at Pusa campus in New Delhi. This award is given every year by the Plant Varieties and Farmers Rights Protection Authority of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, to the farmers of the country for the protection, promotion and promotion of the production of those varieties. Shri Linguram Thakur, a progressive farmer of Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, has been honored by the Plant Variety and Farmers Rights Protection Authority. Working under the guidance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bijapur, Shri Thakur has played an important role in the conservation and promotion of endangered species of paddy in tribal dominated areas. Under the Plant Genome Savior Award 2021, a farmer working under the guidance of Janjgir Champa, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chhattisgarh has been honored for conservation and promotion of traditional varieties of 36 vegetables of Chhattisgarh. Shri Hetram Devangan, a farmer working under the able guidance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Janjgir Champa, has been honored by the Government of India for the conservation and promotion of indigenous varieties of Sai Bitter gourd, Sai Gourd. Shri Sanjay Prakash Choudhary, a farmer working under the guidance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Balod, Chhattisgarh, has been honored for the conservation of Arkar Dubraj and conservation of new varieties selected by various innovative experiments in organic farming with traditional knowledge. Shri Chowdhary does organic farming of 11 traditional varieties of paddy from Panchagavya, due to which rice has been found to be excellent in aroma and taste among these varieties. Due to the tireless efforts and hard work of these progressive farmers of Chhattisgarh, the name of the state of Chhattisgarh has become proud at the national level for its contribution in the conservation of indigenous varieties. The farmers of different districts of Chhattisgarh state have received the same. The Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Rights Act 2001 (PPV and FRA 2001) grants Plant Genome Conservation Awards to farmers for conservation of species and promotion of biodiversity. This act is the only such act in the world which has been made to protect and promote indigenous varieties in the interest of farmers. This authority has been established to protect the varieties and provide share benefits to the farmers. So far, 1527 indigenous varieties have been registered by the farmers of Chhattisgarh state, which is the first in the whole country in terms of numbers, out of which 368 plant varieties have been issued by the Certificate Authority, in which 364 of paddy. Varieties, 3 varieties of Mustard and one variety of Tomato have been awarded certificates. Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur is working in this authority since the year 2014-15 for the registration of indigenous varieties of farmers of the state.
