Chhattisgarh government is now going to make natural paint (colour) from cow dung in Gauthans. It will be started from 75 selected Gauthans of the state. Preparations have been started for the production of natural paints in Gauthans. Chhattisgarh State Cow Service Commission and Kumarappa National Paper Institute Jaipur, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, New Delhi for technical transfer of natural paint manufacturing at Chief Minister’s residence office on Sunday in the presence of Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel. As per the instructions of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the Agriculture Department has started the initiative of setting up Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC) manufacturing unit and paint manufacturing unit for selection of Gauthans and manufacturing of natural paints there. The paint manufacturing units to be set up at Gauthan will produce 500 liters of natural paint per day. In the first phase, about 37.50 lakh liters of natural paint is expected to be produced per year from the paint manufacturing units set up at Gauthan. Presently selling price of natural paint is Rs 120 per liter plus GST. With this value, there will be a gross income of Rs 45 crores per year from the sale of natural paints made in Gauthans of Chhattisgarh. For the manufacture of natural paints, women of self-help groups associated with Gauthans and youth of villages will be duly trained. The technology for making natural paint from cow dung has been developed by Kumarappa National Paper Institute, Jaipur, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, New Delhi. Chhattisgarh State Gauseva Commission has been authorized for transfer of natural paint manufacturing technology. A detailed action plan for making natural paint from cow dung has been prepared by the Agriculture Department. Its purpose is to provide employment opportunities to women groups and youth in rural areas as well as to provide them a source of income. It is worth mentioning here that in Chhattisgarh, Gauthans have been constructed in villages for cow protection and promotion. In these Gauthans, cow dung is being purchased for Rs 2 a kg under Godhan Nyay Yojana since last one and a half years. Apart from manufacturing of vermi compost, super compost from cow dung, the women’s group is earning additional income by preparing other products. On 02 October 2021, Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel also launched the project of power generation from cow dung in Gauthan. Now the production of natural paint from cow dung is also going to start in Chhattisgarh. This will increase employment and income opportunities in the villages. It is worth noting that the main component of natural paint manufacturing is Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC). About 10 kg of dry CMC is prepared from 100 kg of cow dung. CMC accounts for 30 percent of the total quantity of paint manufactured. of happens.
