In a tale of resilience and redemption, Prithvi Shaw is back where it all began – with the Delhi Capitals for IPL 2026. Acquired for 75 lakhs after a rollercoaster auction journey, the 26-year-old opener penned an emotional note: ‘Some stories don’t finish; they return.’
After seven fruitful years, Delhi let Shaw go before IPL 2025. Bidding interest was zilch, sidelining him for the season. The 2026 auction started tepidly for him too, until the final accelerated round where Delhi’s bid sealed his ‘ghar wapasi’.
A viral video from the team shows Shaw at Arun Jaitley, evoking memories of the venue’s electric atmosphere. ‘You never forget Kotla – its cheers, its quiet moments, and how it molded you,’ he said. The caption read, ‘Our boy is home.’
Debuting post his U-19 World Cup heroics in 2018 at 1.2 crores, Shaw delivered consistently: 1892 runs in 79 games, 14 half-centuries, strike rate 147. Last season’s fifth-place finish left Delhi hungry. Axar-captained side starts against LSG on April 1, with Shaw poised to spark a championship run.
