Over the last ten years, India has dramatically reduced its dependence on foreign imports for essentials like medical implants, advanced medications, and equipment, which previously inflated healthcare expenses for millions.
Now, self-sufficiency reigns supreme. From antibiotics to vaccines and state-of-the-art therapies, India is innovating at home. The minister lauded the COVID-19 response, where domestic vaccine production not only met national needs but powered global supply chains, enhancing India’s stature.
Indian innovations in stents, ventilators, and testing devices now adhere to the highest global standards, offering affordability without compromising safety or efficacy.
Backing this momentum, the PRIP scheme injects Rs 5,000 crore into research and innovation, shifting focus from volume-based production to value-driven breakthroughs.
With a modest 1.5% share in the international medical devices arena, the National Medical Devices Policy 2023 charts a course for rapid expansion, heralding an era of economic prosperity through healthcare leadership.
