Chhattisgarh stands ready to make history by hosting the nation’s first Khelo India Tribal Games, scheduled from March 25 to April 3 across three key cities: Raipur, Jagdalpur, and Ambikapur. Over 3,700 tribal athletes will converge, turning the state into a hub of indigenous athletic excellence.
This pioneering national tournament underscores Chhattisgarh’s commitment to nurturing tribal talent. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai hailed it as a ‘moment of pride,’ noting how it opens doors for youth empowerment via sports alongside education and jobs. The event builds on the state’s proven track record with events like Bastar and Surguja Olympics, which mobilized massive participation and revealed boundless enthusiasm for sports in tribal regions.
What sets tribal athletes apart is their innate discipline and superior endurance, attributed to rigorous lifestyles and nutrient-rich diets featuring bajra, moringa, and vegetables. Coach Sarita Kuzur Toppo praises their edge over city-bred players in stamina and focus.
Among the competitors, eyes are on Kiran Bista, the 23-year-old football sensation who shone in the 2025 Asian Championship. She’s joined by promising talents Rashi Poyam, Madwai Puja, and Shraddha Pradhan from Kondagaon, each determined to turn passion into profession.
Backing this talent pool are state-of-the-art facilities. Training academies provide balanced meals, expert coaching, and high-end gear, with programs allowing three-year sports immersion without academic disruption. Raipur’s archery hub features premium Rs 4 lakh bows used in Olympics.
Infrastructure upgrades in the last two years are impressive: Jashpur’s synthetic hockey turf (Rs 4.99 crore), Mahasamund’s athletics track (Rs 6.60 crore), and Jagdalpur’s multi-purpose football turf (Rs 5 crore).
Competitions span seven disciplines, with Raipur hosting hockey, football, swimming, weightlifting, and archery; Jagdalpur athletics; Ambikapur wrestling. Kabaddi in Raipur and Mallakhamb in Ambikapur add flair as demo sports, ensuring a thrilling week-long spectacle.
