In a fiery press conference in Chandigarh on Thursday, Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar exposed what he called a dangerous alliance between AAP and Congress aimed at derailing public focus from Punjab’s core challenges. ‘These parties are working hand-in-glove to peddle lies against the Centre and BJP, which is perilous for our border state,’ he asserted.
Jakhar lambasted CM Bhagwant Mann for finally acknowledging the Rs 13,000 crore disaster aid from Delhi, where a mere Rs 477 crore was utilized while prior governments squandered the balance. The BJP leader mocked the CM’s delay in checking official records.
He ridiculed Congress for shielding AAP in Parliament despite Mann’s accusations of their fund misuse. ‘Opposition? Congress is a total flop. Their voices are either auctioned off or silenced by corruption scandals,’ Jakhar quipped.
Countering anti-Centre propaganda with facts, Jakhar showcased the Modi government’s farmer-friendly record: agriculture budget ballooned from UPA’s Rs 21,933 crore to Rs 1.30 lakh crore; PM-Kisan disbursed Rs 4.27 lakh crore directly; fertilizer aid jumped to Rs 1.77 lakh crore from Rs 18,460 crore.
Jakhar pressed Mann on the stalled agriculture policy draft from October 2023. ‘Why the hold-up? Are deficiencies being addressed?’ he probed, calling for accountability amid rising farmer distress and border security concerns. Punjab deserves better than partisan games, he concluded.
