In a fresh bid to demystify material engineering, IIT Delhi has rolled out its first-ever comic brochure that turns science into a captivating storybook safari. Dubbed ‘Delivering a Material Safari Experience,’ it features the witty Prof. Padarth escorting a student explorer through the wilds of metals, ceramics, polymers, data-driven innovations, and smart materials.
What sets this apart is its masterful blend of cartoons, narratives, and vibrant illustrations that break down tough concepts into bite-sized, relatable adventures. The story subtly champions IIT Delhi’s values of equity and inclusivity, ensuring every reader feels welcome in the scientific journey.
Speaking on the inspiration, Prof. Jayant Jain noted, ‘STEM shouldn’t be dry—our comic highlights its playful, motivational side. Material science sparks creativity, and this format draws in students and casual readers equally.’
The brochure ignites wonder by showcasing how everyday materials influence our lives, making abstract ideas tangible and thrilling.
Prof. R. Lakshmi Narayanan, who spearheaded the effort, added, ‘We want students to view materials as familiar friends from daily life. This natural perspective makes learning intuitive. Through Prof. Padarth’s fantastical voyages, we’re reaching tomorrow’s material scientists in a fun, immersive way.’
This isn’t a one-off; IIT Delhi envisions a comic series to artistically depict departmental research and pedagogy. It’s a strategic step in making science inclusive and engaging, setting a new standard for educational outreach in engineering.
