Bihar Congress is in damage-control mode after three legislators boycotted the Rajya Sabha polls, sealing the fate of their alliance partner RJD’s candidate. The party has slapped a strict two-day deadline on the errant MLAs to furnish detailed explanations for their mysterious absence.
State spokesperson Rajesh Rathore announced that disciplinary head Kapil Dev Prasad Yadav has summoned Manohar Prasad Singh, Surendra Prasad, and Manoj Vishwas for questioning. These representatives from Manihari, Balmi Nagar, and Forbesganj constituencies were nowhere to be found when votes were cast on March 16, 2026.
Yadav highlighted frantic but futile efforts to contact them – mobiles rang out unanswered before going dead. Their absence, alongside one from RJD, delivered a stinging loss to Amarendra Dhari Singh, exposing vulnerabilities in the Mahagathbandhan’s coordination.
Post-poll, the MLAs defended their stand, telling reporters they had pre-notified the leadership about opting out. The candidate, they alleged, failed to garner their support, prompting the deliberate skip. They’re bracing for potential fallout, stating they’re prepared for whatever disciplinary measures follow.
This internal storm comes at a precarious time for opposition unity in Bihar. Congress aims to root out disloyalty through this swift probe, which could result in expulsions or public reprimands. Analysts see it as a bid to deter future rebellions and fortify the alliance against the ruling NDA.
With responses due soon, the political fraternity watches closely. Will apologies suffice, or will this trigger a larger purge within Bihar’s Congress ranks?
