Raigarh police have cracked a major mobile theft case, arresting the prime suspect who made off with 16 premium iPhones from a city shop. The theft occurred late on March 9 at Cell Spot Mobile near Gopi Talkies, with owner Mohammad Faruq discovering the loss the following morning. Shocked by the empty shelves, he alerted authorities, launching a full-scale investigation.
CCTV analysis and technical evidence quickly narrowed down a suspect. The game-changer was when the thief activated a stolen iPhone in Raipur, allowing the cyber team to geo-track it precisely. With this lead, police learned he was traveling back via train.
In a dramatic raid, the joint Kotwali-Cyber team stormed the train en route, capturing Akash Chauhan without resistance. The operation’s precision drew widespread praise from local officials.
Searches yielded 15 iPhones, a bike, and another associate. Chauhan’s confession spilled details of additional crimes, including two more Raigarh shop burglaries and passing one phone to Lakeshwar Chandra, now detained. He also owned up to a prior heist in January at Saha Mobile, pocketing Rs 2.25 lakh in goods and money alongside partners.
As probes continue, authorities are closing in on the syndicate. This swift justice highlights how digital footprints can unravel even the most cunning thieves, reassuring business owners across the region.
