Cricket and politics have long shared the Indian spotlight, and IPL 2026 is no exception. The announcement of assembly election dates across five states has cleared the path for the Board of Control for Cricket in India to publish the complete schedule of the league’s landmark 19th season.
Rajeev Shukla, BCCI Vice-President, shared the update with reporters on Sunday. He noted that West Bengal’s two-phase polling and single-phase elections in other regions prompted a cautious initial release of just 20 games. ‘Police forces were prioritized for elections, but now we can roll out the full lineup,’ Shukla stated.
Key election highlights include April 9 voting in Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry; April 23 in Tamil Nadu; and April 23 & 29 in West Bengal. All results on May 4.
The IPL’s opening phase, set from March 28 to April 12, spans 10 cities and includes high-stakes encounters. Royal Challengers Bengaluru launch against Sunrisers Hyderabad, with Mumbai Indians clashing Kolkata Knight Riders next.
Double-headers add flair: April 4 sees Delhi Capitals take on Mumbai Indians in Delhi before Gujarat Titans host Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad. Matches split into 3:30 PM and 7:30 PM slots.
As BCCI finalizes logistics, IPL 2026 promises edge-of-the-seat drama, ensuring fans get their fill of sixes and boundaries uninterrupted by electoral duties. The full schedule’s imminent release marks a pivotal moment for the tournament.
