In a stirring address on International Women’s Day, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan described Tripura’s self-help group women as the unsung heroes driving rural transformation. At the Hapnia International Trade and Fair Centre, he interacted with SHG members, applauding government efforts in women’s empowerment.
The last ten years under PM Modi have marked a paradigm shift: from developing women to development led by women. SHGs now stand as robust platforms for social and economic upliftment, fostering self-reliance and national contribution among women.
The Vice President elaborated on the transformative ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative, connecting 10 crore women to SHGs, with more than 2 crore attaining lakhpati status. He praised Tripura’s bold goal of 1.35 lakh Lakhpati Didis, signaling accelerated economic empowerment.
Cutting-edge programs like ‘Namo Drone Didi’ train rural women in drone operations, integrating them into tech-driven agriculture. Complementary schemes—Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, Ujjwala—have elevated women’s quality of life through targeted benefits.
Optimistic about the future, Radhakrishnan predicted a rise of Crorepati Didis from the ranks, boosting individual wealth and economic growth. His powerful words resonated: strong women build strong families, and strong families forge an unbeatable nation.
The Vice President toured exhibition stalls featuring SHG products like artisanal crafts, organic foods, and textiles. His praise for their skills highlighted their entrepreneurial prowess. The event drew Tripura’s Governor, Chief Minister, lawmakers, officials, and a large gathering of SHG women.
