Bihar’s political scene gained a new face on Sunday as Nishant Kumar, the son of long-time Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, officially joined the Janata Dal (United) party. The ceremony at JD(U)’s Patna office was attended by top brass, signaling strong backing for the young entrant.
Post-membership, Nishant shared a heartfelt meeting with his father, feeding him sweets in a traditional gesture of joy. Sanjay Jha, the party’s national executive president, joined the celebration. JD(U) lawmakers were unanimous in their optimism, predicting Nishant would shoulder responsibilities with utmost dedication.
‘I’m thrilled and full of hope,’ said MLA Shalini Mishra. She described the palpable buzz in the party and foresaw Nishant elevating Bihar following his father’s principled path. Lesi Singh, a veteran, lauded Nishant’s education in engineering, humility, and appeal to youngsters. ‘He’ll start working immediately, boosting youth morale and fortifying JD(U),’
Singh also dismissed RJD’s recent barbs at Nitish, questioning their sincerity. ‘We don’t need their pity; Nitish’s work for Bihar speaks volumes.’ Minister Shrawan Kumar wished Nishant success in leadership, highlighting party-wide support and youth fervor. ‘He must approach duties thoughtfully,’ he added.
For years, party workers like MLA Komal Singh had urged Nishant’s involvement. ‘This fulfills our wishes; Bihar’s youth rejoice today.’ This move positions Nishant as a bridge between Nitish’s established legacy and the next generation of JD(U) leadership, potentially reshaping alliances and strategies in Bihar’s volatile politics.
