Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district witnessed high-stakes police action late on March 6 when a Special Operations Group-led team cornered two notorious kidnappers. The confrontation erupted as the suspects fired at pursuing officers, resulting in one being shot in the leg and both captured.
Vikas Mishra, the injured outlaw, and Saurabh Dubey were linked to the abduction of local resident Ankit Yadav four days earlier. The duo, along with others, had held Yadav captive, extorting Rs 2 lakh and demanding more. They abandoned their hostage and fled when police closed in.
Seized items included a prohibited handgun, live cartridges, the getaway bike, and a portion of the ransom money totaling Rs 58,000. Nawabganj police, aided by surveillance units, had been relentless in their pursuit since the kidnapping report.
Both men boast criminal histories across neighboring districts like Ayodhya and Basti, with cases involving similar offenses. The wounded Mishra received immediate medical attention at Gonda District Hospital.
This encounter marks a significant victory against a gang preying on vulnerable families. Police vow to dismantle the entire network, with ongoing raids targeting fugitives. Such swift responses are boosting public confidence in law enforcement’s ability to deliver justice.
