Tension gripped Jahangirpur village in Greater Noia’s Jewar region when a simple objection to stone-throwing spiraled into a savage beating of a trader’s family. Puneet Agarwal and his relatives suffered injuries in the Wednesday afternoon melee, allegedly at the hands of neighbors Puneet alias Gutki, Chetan, and Kalicharan.
According to Agarwal’s police complaint, the accused were pelting stones from their rooftop onto his property. His attempt to stop them triggered a barrage of abuses, followed by a physical assault using batons. Family members rushed to his aid but were also set upon, resulting in multiple injuries amid the pandemonium.
Local residents, alerted by the uproar, gathered and managed to pacify the aggressors, averting a larger confrontation. CCTV footage of the incident, now in police custody, is expected to play a key role in the investigation.
Jewar SHO Sanjay Singh stated that an FIR has been filed against the trio based on the victim’s account. ‘Our teams are on high alert to nab the accused, and strict action will follow,’ he said. The police have launched a detailed probe to uncover any underlying feud fueling the violence.
Such incidents highlight the fragility of neighborly relations in urban fringes, where space constraints often ignite conflicts. Community leaders are calling for dialogue forums to prevent future flare-ups. The victims are receiving medical treatment, and the area remains tense as arrests loom.
