In a decisive crackdown on rising mobile snatching cases, Delhi Police arrested a key accused in Mohan Garden, recovering the pilfered smartphone in the process. The operation highlights the force’s proactive stance against petty yet pervasive crimes plaguing urban neighborhoods.
It all began with a distress call on February 23-24 night, reporting a mobile phone robbery in Mohan Garden. ASI Murali Singh and his squad arrived promptly, launching a thorough inquiry into the matter.
Victim Abhijeet, a 19-year-old local from Gurudwara Road, was heading home when two men on a motorcycle waylaid him at Metro Pillar 749 along Najafgarh-Uttam Nagar Road. They fled towards Uttam Nagar with his device, prompting FIR registration at Uttam Nagar station.
The investigative team, led by ASI Murali Singh and including HCs Jitendra, Rakesh, and Dharmendra, analyzed footage from more than 150 CCTVs in surrounding areas like Dabri, Uttam Nagar, Bindapur, and Dwarka North. Inspector Mukesh Antil oversaw the efforts, directed by Prakash Kumar Singh. Tip-offs led to strategic raids.
The breakthrough came with Nagesh’s (21) arrest from Dabri, where the stolen phone was found. Questioning revealed his partner Jafar alias Sahil’s role and Nagesh’s history of similar offenses, including a previous snatch.
As probes deepen, authorities aim to apprehend the absconding accomplice and dismantle any broader network. This success story boosts public confidence in Delhi’s fight against snatch-and-grab tactics.
