Purnea MP Pappu Yadav, a vocal Congress leader, has stirred Bihar politics by suggesting that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar appoint his son Nishant as the next CM to protect the JD(U) from crumbling. This comes right after Nitish’s announcement to shift to the Rajya Sabha, leaving many questioning his sudden exit from state leadership.
In an IANS interview, Yadav didn’t mince words. ‘Why the rush on Holi? People celebrate unity that day, yet you drop this bombshell,’ he said, probing deeper into Nitish’s health history. ‘He was unwell before; why make him CM again if this deal was fixed?’
Yadav emphasized public sentiment. ‘Bihar’s voters and party workers backed Nitish unwaveringly. They chose him as their leader—how can he pass it on? The real betrayal is from leaders to the masses.’ He alleged internal sabotage within JD(U) as the root cause.
Pushing for a generational shift, Yadav declared, ‘Nitish should name Nishant or another strong JD(U) leader as CM. Nishant is the perfect face to secure the party’s future.’ He linked it to broader NDA dynamics: ‘Support came on Nitish’s name. BJP must honor that mandate; Nishant’s elevation saves face for everyone involved.’
As Bihar gears up for potential realignments, Yadav’s call highlights tensions between personal legacies and political pragmatism. Will Nitish heed this advice to steady his party’s ship?
