Tragedy struck Bihar’s Madhubani district when a Mahindra Scorpio from Haryana collided violently with a truck on NH-27, killing four occupants. The incident unfolded Thursday near Khopa Chowk under Fulparas police jurisdiction.
According to police, the SUV crossed the central divider unexpectedly and entered the opposite lane, resulting in a head-on smash. The Scorpio was reduced to wreckage, underscoring the crash’s ferocity.
The vehicle was en route from Darbhanga, carrying tourists from Kurukshetra. Identified victims include Sanjeev Kumar, Kapil Kumar, and Vikas Kumar; the fourth awaits identification. Efforts are underway to trace the owner via registration records.
One fatality occurred instantly, with the other three passing away during transfer to Jhanjharpur hospital. The truck driver escaped with minor injuries and is out of danger.
Station House Officer Vikram Acharya detailed the grim scene, noting traffic snarls on the highway that were quickly managed through diversions. Investigators are probing potential factors like speeding or driver error.
As post-mortems proceed at Madhubani’s Sadar Hospital, this crash serves as a stark reminder of road safety lapses. With wrong-side driving flagged as a likely culprit, authorities vow thorough probes to avert future mishaps on this vital artery.
