Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district is reeling from a macabre patricide case where a young man’s alcohol-fueled fury led to unimaginable horror. On Monday night, 25-year-old Prabhath Kerketta arrived drunk at his father Paras’s solitary home. A routine scolding for his boozing spiraled into violence when Prabhath seized an axe and fatally assaulted the 50-year-old.
Post-murder, the accused showed chilling nonchalance. He tossed his father’s mutilated body into a water tank, strolled to a nearby shop for biryani, relished the meal, and hit the bed. It was only when neighbors noticed Paras’s absence the following day that cops were summoned. A search revealed the decomposed body floating in the tank, head bashed in from multiple axe blows.
Prabhath, living in a rented place nearby, was swiftly detained. He confessed during questioning but dismissed the killing as unintentional. However, locals recounted ongoing tensions, with Paras often fed up with his son’s addiction. ‘They fought regularly over his drinking,’ one neighbor shared.
Police have charged him with murder, seizing the axe as evidence. The incident has sparked outrage, highlighting how substance abuse can fracture familial bonds irreversibly. As investigations deepen, Surguja residents are left grappling with the son’s beastly transformation over a mere parental nag.
