CHAIBASA: A horrifying case of sexual assault has emerged from rural Jharkhand, where a 57-year-old man posing as a tantric practitioner raped a minor girl under the guise of treatment. Pandey Nag, resident of Mundasai in Jagannathpur area of West Singhbhum, has been taken into custody.
The incident unfolded when a local family summoned Nag to treat their ailing child using black magic and rituals. After conducting fake ceremonies at their Todanghatu home, Nag dismissed the mother and her son to dispose of puja items, isolating the young victim.
The girl bravely disclosed the assault to her returning family members, who were left in utter shock. The perpetrator had already escaped by then. Acting promptly, the mother filed an FIR naming Nag on March 1.
Under SDPO Rafael Murmu’s direction, police teams launched a manhunt, nabbing the accused the next day. He admitted guilt during questioning. Medical tests confirmed the assault, and the minor’s testimony is under documentation with full legal safeguards.
Support measures including counseling sessions have been arranged for the traumatized child. With POCSO provisions invoked, investigators vow to expedite the trial. This tragedy highlights the urgent need to curb fraudulent healers preying on desperate villagers seeking miracle cures.
