Holi is synonymous with sweets, but this year in Bhagalpur, Bihar, ‘Millets Malpua’ is stealing the spotlight. Crafted by local entrepreneur Priya Soni, aka ‘Millets Mahila,’ these wholesome treats made from bajra and other millets are the talk of the town.
The demand is unprecedented. Festivals often bring adulterated sweets, but Priyanka addressed this by creating nutritious alternatives. Her malpuas, suitable even for diabetics, have locals flocking to place bulk orders for Holi festivities.
Leveraging the PMFME scheme, Priyanka secured funding to launch her enterprise. Today, her repertoire includes 60 millet innovations like millet khichdi, payasam, halwa, and steamed idlis – products that fit seamlessly into daily diets.
In an exclusive interview, she credits PM Modi’s visionary policies: ‘These schemes have empowered women like never before, allowing us to stand on our own feet.’ Her business not only promotes health but also boosts local millet farming under the ‘Vocal for Local’ mantra.
Launched in 2020, PMFME aims to uplift micro food processors by offering loans, training, and market linkages. Priyanka’s success story exemplifies how government support can transform individual aspirations into community successes.
As Bhagalpur buzzes with Holi preparations, Priyanka’s venture proves that healthy indulgence is possible. This Holi, choose millets – for taste, tradition, and wellness.
