Jharkhand’s Latehar district is reeling from a gruesome gang-rape case where five men from the bridegroom’s side kidnapped a teenage girl during a wedding celebration and raped her repeatedly in a remote jungle. The incident occurred under Mahuadanr police limits on February 27 night, turning a joyous occasion into one of terror.
The minor was enjoying the wedding when the group of youths sweet-talked her into leaving with them. Once isolated, they unleashed unspeakable violence before escaping. The brave girl managed to return home and reveal the ordeal to her relatives, prompting immediate police action.
The complaint led to a rapid police response, resulting in the arrest of all involved. Two adults are in custody, while the three juvenile offenders have been placed in a reformatory. The swift operation has been praised, but the crime itself underscores deep failures in protecting vulnerable girls.
Echoing this tragedy, Gumla saw similar depravity recently. On February 20, eight assailants attacked a schoolgirl heading home from a village fair. Days prior, four car-borne men targeted two minors in Kamdara. As schemes promise monthly aid to women, these repeated assaults expose a stark security void. Police urge vigilance at public events and vow thorough probes to nab any remaining threats.
