New Delhi is stepping up its commitment to ethical AI with the launch of a dedicated casebook on AI’s role in gender empowerment. The Ministry of IT revealed this development on Friday, highlighting a strategic alliance aimed at fostering inclusivity through technology.
Developed under the IndiaAI Mission with support from UN Women and MoWCD, the casebook was spotlighted at the India AI Impact Summit 2026. It curates 23 standout AI applications from Global South countries, each proven to drive real change in women’s lives through measurable results.
Selection was no easy task. Out of 233 submissions from over 50 nations, experts from MeitY, MoWCD, and UN Women conducted thorough reviews, prioritizing solutions with proven deployment, gender-specific impacts, and solid data backing.
Diving into the details, the solutions tackle everything from menstrual health tracking in healthcare to financial tools for economic independence, AI-driven prevention of online gender violence, climate-adaptive farming techniques, streamlined legal aid, skill-building platforms, and insightful resources for decision-makers.
Global recognition came swiftly when UN chief Antonio Guterres interacted with rural STEM aspirants at the GenAI Expo’s UN Women booth. Part of the Westem initiative—backed by multiple governments, EU, tech giants like Micron and Nokia, and NGOs—these young women are leveraging AI for skill enhancement, better education, and job prospects, signaling a bright future in tech leadership.
Positioned as an essential toolkit, this casebook empowers stakeholders to build AI that is not just advanced but equitable. By focusing on the unique challenges faced by women in developing contexts, it charts a course for sustainable, gender-responsive innovation across borders.
