New Delhi witnessed a key administrative reshuffle as Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda was appointed chairman of the Hindi Advisory Committee for the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. An official confirmed the development on Thursday, highlighting Nadda’s role in steering Hindi’s expanded use in official duties.
This comes as part of the central government’s committee overhaul. Anupriya Patel, the Minister of State, steps in as vice-chairperson. The Gazette of India now carries the formal order on these changes.
Parliamentary heft defines the new committee, with six lawmakers onboard. Nominations from the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry include Lok Sabha MPs Manoj Tigga from West Bengal’s Alipurduars and Shashank Mani from Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria, alongside Rajya Sabha members S. Phanganon Konyak from Nagaland and Sanjay Jha from Bihar.
The Parliamentary Committee on Official Language added Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah (Lok Sabha, Tehri Garhwal) and Satpal Brahmachari (Lok Sabha, Sonipat). Government and non-government experts round out the group: four ministry nominees, three from Rajbhasha in Home Ministry, and representatives from Vishwa Hindi Parishad and Hindi Prachar Sabha, Hyderabad.
Structurally, the panel has one chair, one deputy, 15 appointed members, and 37 officials—including top secretaries from fertilizers, chemicals-petrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals wings. Fertilizers’ additional/joint secretary acts as member secretary.
Core responsibilities involve auditing Hindi implementation in ministry affairs and issuing recommendations. Compliance with constitutional mandates, Central Hindi Committee policies, Official Languages Act, and Home Ministry guidelines is non-negotiable.
Operating for three years from inception—extendable if needed—the committee ties member tenures to their roles. Replacements fill residual terms only. Though based in the capital, meetings can occur nationwide.
Nadda’s leadership could accelerate Hindi adoption, blending cultural preservation with modern governance. As India balances linguistic diversity, such initiatives foster national unity through official language promotion.
