The political temperature in Uttar Pradesh soared as BSP chief Mayawati launched a blistering attack on the Samajwadi Party for observing ‘PDA Day’ on the jayanti of BSP founder Kanshiram. Dismissing it as opportunistic vote-mongering, she exposed what she called SP’s anti-Bahujan legacy.
Taking to social media platform X, Mayawati labeled the declaration ‘mere political jugglery.’ She argued it’s a desperate ploy to woo Dalits, backward classes, and minorities ahead of 2027 assembly elections, despite SP’s history of neglect.
Mayawati painted a grim picture of SP’s past: a party synonymous with injustice toward Dalits and vulnerable groups. ‘Their chhal, charitra, and chehra have perpetually opposed BSP and great Bahujan leaders,’ she stated.
Drawing from history, she referenced the short-lived 1993 SP-BSP coalition, where commitments to protect Dalits from violence fell through. The 1995 Guest House episode became a flashpoint, with Mayawati accusing Mulayam Singh Yadav of masterminding an assault on her life.
Further fueling her critique, Mayawati listed SP’s alleged erasures: renaming Kanshiram Nagar, Sant Ravidas Nagar, and key institutions like the Lucknow university dedicated to Urdu, Persian, and Arabic studies. A Saharanpur hospital bearing Kanshiram’s name met the same fate, she alleged.
She extended her charges to SP’s handling of communal riots, claiming Muslim communities suffered immensely under their regimes. Mayawati accused SP and BJP of a symbiotic relationship that harmed the masses.
Ending on a provocative note, she questioned SP’s failure to honor Kanshiram with official mourning upon his death. This exchange signals escalating tensions in UP’s complex caste arithmetic, with both parties positioning for dominance.
