West Bengal’s Howrah district witnessed a chilling daylight execution on Wednesday, where two armed men shot a youth dead in Golabari police limits. The victim, Shafiq Khan, fell prey to a meticulously planned ambush captured vividly on CCTV.
According to police, the footage shows Shafiq engaged in conversation with one suspect while another positioned himself strategically at his back around 4 AM Tuesday. In a flash, the rear assailant brandished a firearm and pumped a bullet into Shafiq’s skull. The duo then riddled his body with more shots as he hit the ground, confirming the kill before vanishing into the dawn.
A resident of Pilkhana under the same station, Shafiq worked as a property developer and was out for a roadside meal when attacked. Eyewitness accounts and video evidence point fingers at Mohammad Harul Khan and Rohit as the perpetrators, linked to a prior minor dispute.
‘We have mobilized teams and are scrutinizing every frame of CCTV networks,’ stated a Howrah police senior. The body was taken to hospital, where death was confirmed. An FIR has been lodged, and raids are ongoing.
Family members expressed outrage, with a relative revealing, ‘There was just a brief argument with Harul long ago—no real grudge. Yet he brought Rohit to murder him.’
The incident has sparked outrage, prompting calls for enhanced patrolling and stricter arms control. As investigators piece together timelines and motives, the community holds its breath for arrests that could restore some semblance of security.
