Bihar’s vigilance sleuths struck gold twice on Tuesday, nabbing a survey amin and a supply officer red-handed with bribe envelopes in hand. The coordinated raids in Supaul and Samastipur districts highlight the state’s zero-tolerance policy toward corrupt public servants.
Trouble brewed for Vikram Kumar Ram, survey amin in Muraina block of Supaul, after local farmer Jagnarayan Yadav from Khorma village blew the whistle at the vigilance headquarters. Ram allegedly stalled Yadav’s land survey unless paid Rs 20,000. A discreet probe confirmed the graft, prompting DSP Narendra Kumar to assemble a trap team. The early morning raid at Ram’s rental in Nirmali Nagar Panchayat’s Ward 1 yielded the damning evidence.
Meanwhile, in Samastipur’s Ujiyarpur block, supply officer Rajesh Kumar Bhagat met a similar fate. Accused of demanding Rs 10,000 for extra PDS rations, Bhagat was trapped at home by vigilance operatives post-verification. FIRs now stand registered against both at the vigilance thana.
As questioning intensifies, the duo faces a special court appearance. The bureau’s 2023 scorecard boasts 17 such catches and Rs 7 lakh-plus in recoveries, signaling a robust crackdown that promises cleaner governance ahead.
