A festive wedding procession in rural Chhattisgarh exploded into chaos when a dispute over music led to a deadly stabbing spree. Chandan Nishad, brother of the bride, was killed, and four friends were gravely wounded in Bhothidih village, Dhamtari. Police have nabbed seven culprits, two of whom are juveniles, in a case that underscores rising tensions at social gatherings.
Details emerged from the Magarlod area where the bride’s party from Gariaband’s Malgaon joined the groom’s family for the vibrant Chauthiya event. As the group paraded with blaring band instruments, dancing and singing under the night sky, discord arose.
The groom’s brother Chandan and his companions objected strongly to the band’s selection. Words were exchanged, and before long, the altercation boiled over. Band members, enraged, launched a ferocious assault with sharp knives right in the bustling village market.
Tragically, Chandan collapsed from a fatal stab wound. Tarun Dhruv, attempting to shield him, and three other interveners were also viciously attacked, their conditions listed as serious at the local hospital.
CCTV cameras in the vicinity recorded the brutal sequence, aiding law enforcement’s rapid response. Magarlod police quelled the unrest and detained the suspects following Tetku Ram Nishad’s formal complaint.
The lineup includes adults Toran Chakradhari, Abhishek Patel, Hinesh Yadav, Tamraj Kavar, Gulab Diwan, and two minors remanded to juvenile justice board. SP Shailendra Pandey stated that stringent BNS charges have been invoked, with all arrested remanded to jail.
As the wedding that promised joy descends into sorrow, villagers reflect on the perils of unchecked tempers. This stabbing not only shattered two families but has sparked calls for better crowd control and mediation during traditional events. Full probe underway.
