A chilling case of domestic violence has come to light in Bihar’s Jamui district, where a husband took his wife’s life in a fit of rage over her failure to produce a son. Irfan Ansari, the prime suspect, walked into Nagar police station and confessed to the crime, resulting in his swift detention.
Tarana Khatoon, aged 29 and mother to three young girls, was discovered lifeless in her Amarth village home, her body bearing deep wounds from a sharp-edged weapon. The attack occurred on Sunday, mere months after she gave birth to her third daughter, an event that allegedly intensified the family’s dissatisfaction.
Neighbors recounted frequent arguments in the Ansari household, stemming from the couple’s marriage in 2018. Tarana faced relentless torment, including beatings, for not delivering a boy. Her maternal family claims a similar violent episode unfolded just 10 days earlier, highlighting a pattern of abuse ignored by authorities until it turned fatal.
An FIR has been lodged on the complaint of Tarana’s father. The body was sent for autopsy, while FSL experts scour the scene for clues. Irfan remains in custody under interrogation, and police are hunting down fleeing relatives implicated in the harassment.
Experts point to this murder as a stark reminder of gender bias persisting in Indian society, urging stricter laws and awareness campaigns to protect women from such patriarchal violence.
