Prime Minister Narendra Modi transformed transportation in the NCR by inaugurating the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor and Meerut Metro on Sunday. The event at Shatabdi Nagar station underscores India’s ambitious vision for rapid regional transit.
Welcomed by UP CM Yogi Adityanath and BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary, PM Modi arrived in Meerut to a rousing reception. From there, he headed to the station to officially launch the Namo Bharat train and metro services.
In a major development, the 82-km corridor was dedicated to the public, alongside the opening of key RRTS segments: 5 km in Delhi from Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar, and 21 km in UP from Meerut South to Modipuram.
Joining commuters and students, PM Modi rode the metro to Meerut South, engaging in lively conversations. Two young students even shared pictures with him, highlighting the community spirit of the launch.
With top speeds of 180 kmph, Namo Bharat revolutionizes travel, linking Delhi swiftly to Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut. This semi-high-speed system is poised to redefine urban commuting.
Sarai Kale Khan emerges as a pivotal interchange, linking rail, metro, bus terminals, and ring road access. Meerut’s new stations—Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram—complete the initial phase.
By merging high-speed regional links with local metro, this project eases traffic snarls and cuts CO2 emissions. It’s a model for sustainable, integrated transport solutions across India’s growing cities.
