Actor Vijay’s political outfit, TVK, has made headlines by scrapping a grand public rally in Vellore’s Agaramcheri for February 23. The event, now reconfigured as an exclusive executive council session, will host 4,900 representatives in a controlled environment.
What was poised to draw 25,000 supporters has been scaled back following police intervention. After site inspection, SP N.U. Shivaraman imposed 20 stipulations and sought clarifications, prompting TVK to pivot to a private format.
This administrative meeting, limited to verified delegates via QR-coded IDs, runs from 12 PM to 4 PM on Monday. Extensive logistics include shaded pandals at 10 spots, sufficient seating, 50,000 water bottles, and a large water tank for hydration.
Health and safety take center stage with 30 doctors, 100 nurses, 100 assistants across 10 medical units, plus 15 ambulances on standby. A 500-strong volunteer force, 50 of them women, trained in security by ex-sub-inspector Sabiyullah, will assist operations.
With 900 police officers securing the perimeter near the Chennai-Bengaluru highway, traffic adjustments are confined to local roads. Vijay’s road journey from Chennai will be tightly managed to prevent convoy followers.
The decision reflects TVK’s adaptability amid regulatory hurdles, allowing the party to focus on strategic discussions without public fanfare, a move that could shape its future outreach in Tamil Nadu.
